"Through the FSU-Teach program, I have had the opportunity to observe, volunteer, and teach within k-12 classrooms in Leon County. With this experience, I have been able to practice writing lesson plans, speak in front of a classroom, and use classroom management. These hands-on experiences helped me learn a lot about myself, as well as what it means to be an effective teacher. Through my involvement with the FSU-Teach program, I was introduced to the Robert Noyce Phase II Scholarship. After being a Noyce candidate during the fall of 2014, I became a Noyce scholar in spring 2015. Through Noyce, I have been educated on what it means to get to know your students and to incorporate “equitable” instruction within the classroom. I have also been exposed to the diligence, patience and dedication it takes to teach in a high-needs school. However, becoming a Noyce scholar has done nothing more but strengthen my passion for teaching students. Therefore, I plan on teaching Earth/Space Science in a Title I middle or high school after graduation."

Having been brought up through high-needs schools, I have always had the desire to work in a similar setting, because I have seen firsthand the impact a great teacher can have on a student's life who might not have the same resources and advantages as students in non high-needs schools. I believe my experiences in high-needs schools and knowledge gained through FSU-Teach will help me be able to make a difference in a high-needs school once I graduate. My three years through the FSU-Teach program and time as a Noyce Scholar has equipped me with valuable skills to create an engaging, student-centered classroom in a high-needs setting.

I have had some wonderful experiences as a Noyce scholar this year. We have been informed through meetings and discussions with educators. I have learned so much about the background and make-up of students at high-need schools. I have also learned ways to become an asset to these students and the community. I hope that I can implement some of the strategies in my teaching career and write about the difference it makes in my life and the lives of my students.
